Anyone who knows me would tell you that I am a creative person and that I LOVE anything and everything having to do with the beach! When people ask me what my house looks like, I jokingly say that it looks like the ocean threw up on my walls!

In my younger days, I loved to get coloring books!  I would color the pictures then cut out the people and make collages.  During school, my favorite classes where gym, history and ART CLASS!

So, with visions of dolphins, whales and seashells swimming in my head and an empty garage destined to be my workshop…I started Meghan’s Collection, LLC!

Before I started my small business, I would go to garage sales and thrift stores (still do) and pick up old items and re-purpose them.  I often ended up in the picture frame aisle…picking out old frames to re-paint.  I would also stop by local Art and Craft Shows, look at the vendors and their product, buy something, then think to myself…I can make that!

All of my items…home décor, Delaware cutouts and fun magnets…are created by me, ocean inspired and made from wood!  I either use a new piece of wood or an old piece that I have picked up along the way and re-purposed. I begin a piece by selecting a pattern that has been drawn by my Dad. The shape could be a mermaid, sand dollar, dolphin, or one of my favorites, a whale! Once I have the design selected, I trace it out on the wood.  Using my scroll saw, I cut out the shape then sand it so it is smooth and ready to be painted.  I love the colors blue and teal, and use them on many of my pieces.  After the paint dries, I get the sander out again and sand the piece so it has a distressed look.  This is one of my favorite parts of the process because the grains in the wood start to show through the paint!

One of my favorites to create … a whale!

One of my favorites to create … a whale!

Throughout the year, I set up at local Art and Craft Shows in Delaware.  Interacting with customers and seeing their excitement when they pick out a piece to purchase for either themselves, a family member or friend is one of the best parts of having my small business.  It’s cool when a repeat customer stops by my booth to either say hello or show me a picture on their phone of something I made that’s hanging on their wall! It’s meaningful when people compliment me on my work and rewarding when someone purchases something that will be in their possession for years to come!

Thank you to all of my customers…current and new!  I sincerely thank you for taking an interest in my work…whether you make a purchase or just browse!
